  Built in 1394 as the main palace, this is the oldest and grandest of the five Joseon Dynasty palaces. The lavish
grounds contain a lotus pond and extensive gardens, and currently houses the National Museum of Korea and the National Folk Museum. Subway Line #5-Gyeongbokgung Stn
  This main gate is the southernmost of the four gates of Gyeongbokgung, founded in 1395 by the first
Tae-Jo. During the Japanese occupation of Korea, the Japanese governing general destroyed the gate and built a Japanese government building, in order to demoralize Korea. Rebuilt in concrete in 1968, Gwanghwamun serves as a reminder of the resiliency and strength of the Korean spirit. Subway Line #5-Gwanghwamun Stn
 
  Seoul Tower sits atop Mount Namsan, with a bird¡¯s eye view of Seoul. Also called Namsan Tower, this landmark

  Formerly the site of Seoul National University, this neighborhood is still a mecca for young adults.

  " The Blue House". The equivalent of the U.S. White House, this is Korea¡¯s presidential residence.

  This international shopping area is a must for visitors. The main strip boasts over a thousand shops catering to
foreigners, with leather goods, clothes and souvenirs. Highly diverse, you will find most any ethnic restaurant in this area, such as Indian, Pakistani, Thai and German.   The only major Buddhist temple in Seoul, Jogyesa is named for Jogye, the largest Buddhist school in Korea.

district, dominated by high-rise shopping centers. Clothes, bags, shoes, jewelry, imported goods and even sporting goods can be found at bargain prices from 10:00am to 5:00am.   An artist¡¯s haven, the main street of this area is Insadong-gil, where you can find antiques, calligraphy
supplies, traditional restaurants and plenty of art galleries. In fair weather, the sidewalk abounds with street vendors selling everything from jewelry to ceramics. This is the perfect walking street for foreign visitors, closed to vehicle traffic on Sundays.
